Concept. The panel speakers concept is patented by NTX. Panel speakers doesn't work like traditional loudspeakers. Instead, it acts more like a piano soundboard. Traditional speakers use a cone moving rapidly in and out to generate the compressions in air which we hear as sound. The Panels use, however, a small exciter carefully positioned on the soundboard. The exciter generates waves along the board which, in turn, form the sound waves.

Benefits. Firstly, and most obviously, they are really thin and can blend effortlessly into any room. Because of the way the waves are produced, the sound is not 'coherant' or 'in-phase'. Consequently, there is no sonic cancallation from the back of the speaker, hence, no need to put them in a box. And the sound is not from a point source, and doesn't suffer from the 'inverse square law', the sound can fill a much larger area.
